welcome to my life

shuz' day- to- day is pretty simple. welcome people. this post, i shall share some of the usual things i do in my ministry, in my past time.
its auto sign- in whenever i switched on my pc. msn. sitting handsomely in my display picture is snoopy, my recent new love. snoopy is cute. as you can see (or maybe you can't, its too small), am currently chatting with debster, arranging youth camp stuffs.
living in singapore, or rather, in the 21st century, its hard to miss this guy out - the electronic mail box. simply known as the emails. on an average, my mailbox received around 15 to 20 emails per day. and of course, needless to say, sundays are the free-est. zero emails at most times, cause its usually the end of a week. and needless to say again, mondays are the packed-est, can go up to 25 emails on that monday blues! *gasps*
love my itunes. its playing top 25 most played tunes. currently in number one position, "alone" by kenny g, played 147 times.
this week's service cuesheet. these cuesheets are sent out weekly to the people involved in the services. sneak preview: this week, we will have dennis and ziying as service leaders, gwen as praise and worship leader, shuz as stage manager.
something new for this week, i'm co- teaching with dennis in the interpersonal effectiveness wfl class. have looked through the notes during the day, will look through again tomorrow morning.

silence

There is always a reason for God’s silence – a purpose under heaven.
He may be silent because He has spoken and we have not responded – so He waits. Or He may have spoken and we have said “no” – so He gives us time to see the consequences of our disobedience. Or He may want to speak, but we are too busy that we are not giving Him the silence needed to hear His “still small voice” in the recesses of our hearts. Or God may be silent because it is His time to be silent.
In any intimate relationship there are always periods of silence. God’s silence may be a test of our faith.
“If we are faithless, he will remain faithful…” 2 Tim. 2: 13

forgiveness

Have you ever did something that you regret doing it? Have you ever misunderstood someone and you wished that things could be rewind to the way they were before? Have you ever said something that you wished you didn’t say it? Have you ever wished that you could have given a little bit more attention to the close ones whom you often take their presence for granted?
We often have such moments that we hope and wish for forgiveness. Forgiveness is such a powerful word. It brings about great relief to the person who needed it so much. It brings so much joy, giving the person a fresh new start in the relationship or the friendship. I remembered that there were a few incidents in my life that I wished for forgiveness so badly, from my Maker or my friends. Often, the bad one will try to deceive the person by instilling guilt and unworthiness, telling him that he is no good and do not deserve any forgiveness or even try to prophesize that he will fail and fall in that same area again, thus, questioning the poor human soul about why should he be asking for forgiveness.
Yet, the Lord is faithful and love. Asking for forgiveness displays our humility in Christ. The first step of forgiveness happens in your own heart, when you know that God has forgiven you when you seek for it and you are able to forgive yourself for the wrongful act. Next step of seeking forgiveness from those you did wrong to is to amend the broken relationship or friendship because love covers all wrongs. Here, you seek out to the person because the relationship or friendship meant something to you and that brings people to reconcile with each other.

Thank you, Jesus for forgiving me. Thank you for receiving me daily, each time I come to you to tell you of my wrongs, you never fail to give me a new start and see me afresh. Today, I learnt forgiveness in another deeper level of understanding. True forgiveness brings great relief and so much joy to the heart. Thank you, Lord.

Caught spiderman3 with eevoon today. one of the last few sentences that parker made was when he said “I forgive you” to sandman. It was moving. It was truth in love.

i enjoyed wam night

"when Jesus heard what has happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. when Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick." matthew 14: 13- 14
what happened earlier on was that John was beheaded. John was someone close to Jesus. Jesus knew him as a close brother and friend. his death affected Jesus and that's why Jesus drew away on his own to pray or talk to God. it just reminded me that similarly, there were times when i heard about news that bothers me alittle. yet, what kind of spirit ooze out of me when i'm needed to attended to people or matters? do i turn people away when i'm down? do i respond with a negative spirit? in this case, Jesus never did. in fact, Jesus was troubled, yet he did not turn the people away and ministered to their needs.
met with gwen and zinc over a nice japanese dinner (gyoza rocks!) at cuppage. it was just so relaxing to hang out with good friends. went for wam night after a very full meal. am thankful for a great time of sharing in the stage manager training. it was good to share our thoughts and rough out ideas and suggestions for more growth in our programming ministry. as i rest my head on my pillow tonight, i'm so charged up by vision and dreams in programming. discussing with the fellow stage managers and event programmers make me so excited about what we are doing in our ministries. reaching for excellence is knowing that yesterday's service standard is the minimal benchmark for tomorrow's event.

Came across the above and it got me laughing. I thought it was quite a witty and funny slogan. Holiday’s been quite relaxing for me. Spent some times reading, anime-ing, manga-ing, helped out in a math and logical formula task (wa... typed my ever longest formulae on excel spreadsheet!), swimmings, suppers (gasp! better watch that waist!) and caught up with shirls over her mud ooze and my egg salad (see? i'm making it up to my late night suppers).

Pens down

Exams’ over and there are a few things I truly want to give thanks to God for. I’ve gotten back some of my assignments and projects’ grades. Praise God for 2 HDs in my minor – market research and 3 CRs for two other modules. I do look forward to receiving my exams results soon, because I had set a goal at the beginning of the semester. Living life with my Maker is sooo exciting!

Had planned to do some things in this holiday – start on my 3 new books (woops, some were last year’s birthday gifts! So…no more books this year yea? Need to be faithful to finish those I have now. Hahahaha). Decided to re- learn photoshop (any interested pals willing to teach me?) oh yeah, to relax abit, want to catch some good movies on dvds like Pirates of the Caribbean 1 and 2 (*scream Johnnnnny Depppppp!!), stranger than fiction, etc… (any other good recommendations?).

Feeling happy after a good jog just now, want to thank God for a few people. Debbie, as much as you enjoyed the short chats throughout yesterday, I enjoyed it as well. Through you, I came to see the fulfillment of this verse: Proverbs 11: 25 “…he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.” Thanks for being a part of my life. I see joy and obedience in you. Shirls, a very spontaneous going- home- together last night I enjoyed so much and so thankful for. Thanks for always giving me a pair of listening ears. Your ears came in time to encourage me. Thank you for the caught- me- by- surprise sms at 12:12am. Your sms gave me that extra dosage of encouragement. Matthias, you’ve been such a hungry believer for the Word! I’m so amazed and inspired by your genuine concern for the caregroup. Shuping, coming home to you, watching you sleep soundly brought smiles to me and I’m thankful for your knowing- me- inside- out.

It's the Lord

"...You can lift up a song in the midst of a war, for the battle is mine, says the Lord..."
it's all about decision. even in bad times, lousy times, you feel that you are the lowest of all, the Lord is still good. He is faithful and true. In not- so- good times, we can still choose to praise the Lord. amen.

which seed are you?

Seed along the path: anyone who hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in the heart.
Seed on rocky places: the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. However, because he has no root, he lasts only a short time. He will fall away quickly when trouble comes.
Seed among the thorns: the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful.
Seed on good soil: the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown…
Matthew 13: 1- 23
What type of soil does your heart has today? What best describe the condition of your heart today? Is your heart soft towards the heavenly voice today? How do you respond when you hear the word today? Are you too busy for Him?
Taking care of our own heart is our personal spiritual responsibility.

attitude

first of all, kudos to miss tan eelee for her faith- filled sermon at youth service last weekend! :) i'm personally challenged and re- visited some fundamental truths about the Word.
attitude is such an important and vital element in our growth. it is the attitude that makes the difference. often times, we pray and ask God to increase our spiritual hunger and appetite for the Word. in fact, bottomline is that we are the one who determine our own spiritual appetite. attitude is the one to determine our obedience to God as well. our feelings and emotions should not determine our obedience towards God. attitude is about kingdom first living. matthew 6: 33.

matthew 11: 28- 30

28 Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light."
(New Living Bible Translation)

28 "Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. 29 Walk with me and work with me - watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. 30 Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."
(The Message Bible Translation)

God has never leave us. He is here for us. When we succeed and did well in something, He gives us that extra bonus of encouragement. When we are worn out and drained, He gives us that extra dosage of strength and courage. A clear evidence is the bible. When I am drained and need some encouragement, the Word does Its job perfectly. God is gentle, He does not rush me through.

words

"You can never undo what you said as one's words are seldom forgotten."
this thought came to me last night as i was on my way home from class. recently, my cg is going through the book of James. James 3: 1- 12.
verse 5, likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.
verse 11, can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring?
no wonder a famous saying goes "think twice before act". we may apologize when we realized we said the wrong things or with the wrong spirit or attitude, yet our words are deeply embedded in the other person's mind. yes, there is another side of the story that goes something like this, aren't there supposed to be the benefit of the doubt and forgiveness? well, before we go into that, lets do some self reality check on ourselves first.
we are to give an account to the One above for the words that come out from our mouth. at the end of the day, its not about winning or losing in a conversation. its about thinking what's best for the current situation and for the person.

so needed

God’s Presence is felt the most when He is most needed by you.
when is the last time you felt God's peace in your heart? when is the last time you felt God's presence so strongly in your life? ultimately, who do you hand over the total control of your life to? is it "me"? is it the One above? we become fearful when we lack control of our lives. so yes, now i want to let Him take totaly control of my life. next question is what does it mean (tangibly) to let God take control of my life?
sometimes, we fear embarking or doing some things because our purpose is not clear and precise enough. not a clear purpose results in lack of courage and perserverance. do you know that He is really and totally with you? how can i know that God is really with me in this situation?
the truth is i want to fast and pray more. this is one tangible act i know how to do, when i so need you in my life.

Perfect love drives out fears.
think about it. if we do our best, we will just leave the rest to above. if we did not do our best, we will be shortchanging of what's best to come. its the same. sometimes, we are afraid of this, afraid of that, what's important is we should do our best in whatever roles or situations we are in and leave the rest to the One above.

small wins daily

We need to encourage believers to live for eternity and not just for time,”
As Easter approaches, this is the don’t- know- how- many- times I’m celebrating Easter in Hope. In fact, am pretty looking forward to the special programs in our Easter services, the song, the first ever youth animated clip… more than these, am pondering over the article which I have just read. Am I living a resurrected life? Am I living a renewed life? Am I living a transformed (from the inside out) life? Am I experiencing small victories in my spiritual walk and gaining more grounds in becoming more Christ-like follower?
3 days ago, I was having the busiest and the packed-est school day. 3 lectures with 2 project meetings in between. As I walked out of the school at 1045pm, in my mind, “alright…..finally the day is coming to an end….I can take a long bus ride home, sleeping.” A double- decked 74 came and I boarded the bus, thanking God for an air- conditioned bus. Too lazy to climb to the upper deck, I found myself a seat and sat comfortably, reaching out for my mp3 player. When I looked up, I saw a familiar stranger, my classmate from the last lecture. I didn’t know her well, we shared the “hi and bye” type of friendship. She waved and I waved back. I guess she probably was feeling abit awkward, not wanting to be unfriendly, thus chosen the seat besides me. At spilt seconds, I had random thoughts in my head, “Should I just close my eyes and go to sleep?” “Should I tell her that I’m tired and tell that I wish to nap?” “Should I just continue with my mp3 enjoyment?”. Yet, on the other side of my brain, “Did you not remember about what you learnt about reaching out to unbelievers during Peter Truong’s sharing?” “I thought you said that you want to be more outreaching to care for others’ needs?” “I thought you learnt something like, people are getting more individual and care for own needs in the recent world, and didn’t you said that you want to be different?” at this, I kept my mp3 player and turned to talk to her. The initial start was abit awkward and not- sure- what- to- say kind of moments. However, thanked God, we talked till she alighted at her bus stop and I still got to rest for awhile before I reached my bus stop. As I walked home, I was happy because I chose to obey and gained small victories, bit by bit.
Just last night, I had a very good train ride home with Liyan. We seldom meet, yet, last night’s conversation was very encouraging and relaxed for me. I enjoyed. Felt very comfortable to share with her about my life and I prayed for God to grow our friendship closer.

i don't understand why you chose to love me

recently, i've been so blessed and such incidents made me felt so loved. i would describe this love to a child, looking up and smiling innocently to his father. gwen msned me a couple of times to ask about my tests. jiayi smsed to pray for my tests. philo gave me a heart- shaped box full of tiny brownies. eevoon texted me about my tests and prayed for a prophesy for me, which i was so encouraged and reminded of God's calling and assurance. jiali gave me a card. ruth secretly bought cup noodle for me. ruiz msned and asked me out for a catch up.
Lord, i really don't deserve these good gifts of encouragement from your people. yet, you chose to show your love to me through them. its like what Peter Truong mentioned in yesterday's ULM. sometimes, ministry can be quite tough going. yet, it is all these little little sweet acts of affirmation and care that bring me to go one more mile, one more hurdle. Lord, thank you. there is nothing else i could say to you, except, to truly thank you with all my heart.
You gave Your life away for me
Truly my heart belongs to You
So let me say
How could I ever thank You for
What You did at Calvary
When You bled and died for me
How could I ever turn away
Knowing that You paid the price
That I could never pay

pouring out

...Hannah was praying in her heart, and her lips were moving but her voice was not heard. Eli thought she was drunk and said to her, "How long will you keep on getting drunk? Get rid of your wine." "Not so, my lord, " Hannah replied, "i'm a woman who is deeply troubled... i was pouring out my soul to the Lord." Eli answered, "Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him."
1 Samuel 1: 12- 17.
the word was "wait". shuz, wait, wait on God and God will grant you what you desire, just as how He granted Hannah what she desires. cry out to Him and he will answer your prayers in His timing. just pour out to God.

its been dino-age since i last had a free sunday. i was actually looking forward to it, telling myself that i wanna use the day to rest and slack. i practically had nothing, yea, no-thing. no meetings at all. *yatta!* woke up to no alarm clock, lazed awhile on my bed, with a wide smile on my face, knowing that its going to be a great free sunday ahead. prayed awhile and thought about a few things, before i hit the pc. was surfing around initially and got bored of that. found myself opening up my ministry excel files and began to work on them. did the first draft of stage manager training, first draft of youth camp time schedule and the community ministry service cuesheet this weekend. after finishing the three tasks, hit my first food of the day half past one- green bean soup! yumz! read a magazine and laze around on my bed in the heat of the afternoon sun. was about to doze off when i remembered that i didnt want to waste my sunday time by sleeping away. took my socks and headed out for a run on my usual track. went up to aunt jane's place for some evening bites before she was needed to attend to her guests at home. cant you believe it, i re-watched a few episodes of kim sam soon again before my kid sister greeted me. went downstairs together to buy pocky, cashew nuts and chocolate milk. i want to eat my favorite things. i've two hours more before my free sunday come to an end. i shall go off to bible and hovering around my sister's room. farewell, my rarest free sunday.

are you doing more?

Matthew 5: 43- 48. it is the famous and oftenly recalled bible verse that says about loving your enemies, loving those who persecute you. as i read this passage again, verse 47 struck me for the first time. "and if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others?...." now i began to see the link when God tells us to love our enemies and doing more than others. God knows that it is hard and tough to love our enemies, to love those who do not do good to us. God isn't trying to persecute us or make our lives difficult. yet, looking from another perspective, God's love is really big and deep. He wishes for us to have love for enemies more than hatred for them. our Savior, Jesus has shown this example perfectly. in Luke 23: 34, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." Jesus knew and experienced the painful things from men at the cross, yet, His love for the people overcame all difficulties. am i just doing the normal and usual things in life? reacting and responding how others will normally say? Lord, i want to rise above the norms. align my attitudes and actions towards Christ- centeredness.
